Gadgets for the Car / Mobile Mom Contest Winner
December 20, 2007
Recently Hawk Electronics announced its Mobile Mom Makeover contest to help turn one lucky mom’s car into a tech mobile. As we all know, being a mobile mom is vital these days. Between work and kids, moms tend to balance the schedules of their professional and personal lives.
When you have to balance meetings at work, your spouse’s schedule, football games and dance recitals, moms need to take help anywhere they can get it, so Hawk wanted to help makeover a typical mom’s car into a real mobile mom vehicle. We received hundreds of nominations, but only one mom could win. Let me read just a bit of her husband’s submission:
“My wife is the supermom of “supermoms”. We have four kids ages 6,8,15 and 17. She doesn’t neglect any of them or our household. Our oldest son is in the High School Band, and she coordinates their away games, contests and trips for the last 3 years. Our other teenage son isn’t of driving age so he is always needing a ride to work, school, the movies or a friends home. Our 8 year old daughter loves horseback riding and plays soccer. My wife is always on the side lines cheering her on. Recently she made matching pony tail holders for all the girls on the team. We had a 12 girl birthday party sleepover and my wife planned all the activities and managed the entire event. And our younger son models for a local talent agency. She is constantly taking him from photo shoot to photo shoot. Sometimes as far away as Arkansas. She also volunteers her time in the elementary school library two days per month. Not only does she keep up with everyone’s needs and schedules but she works for a local airline approx 20 hours per week. I don’t know how we would function without her. She is amazing.”
I’d like to introduce and welcome our Mobile Mom Makeover winner, Cindi McCready and her family from Coppell, TX.
So, let’s take a look at these gadgets that Cindi has in car now. Talk about products that are helpful for moms who are always on the go.
| The first product we added into Cindi’s car was the – the Parrot / Bluetooth Hands-free kit. We all know the safest way to drive, especially when your kids are in the car, is with your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. This product is really easy to use and keeps you from juggling too many tasks while you’re trying to drive. With new legislation passing like in the Park Cities recently, it’s also necessary. | ![]() |
One of the best things about this product is that you don’t have to download any navigation software from the computer because it comes with maps already preloaded. It also features a movie player, music player and picture viewer for when you’re not using it as a navigational tool. It has built-in speakers for the entertainment features which can also be used to provide voice guided directions so you can keep your eyes on the road and not the screen. Now you don’t need to be juggling a phone and driving the kids around.

A navigation system is a hot Christmas gift we’re seeing at Hawk this year and when you’re responsible for getting your family members to their various activities, you’re constantly driving somewhere you haven’t been before. Tools, like this Delphi NAV200 GPS Mobile Navigation and Entertainment system, are really very easy to use. As you can see, it’s not much bigger than your hand, and it installs in your vehicle in two easy steps. |
| Now let’s talk about my favorite gadget in the Makeover – the DVD players. DVD players in cars are now a pretty common. This All-In-One Myron & Davis Player and Monitor is a custom-mounted DVD player and is great for keeping the kids entertained not only on long road trips, but while you’re stuck in traffic in the city. | ![]() |

Now these are all very fun, but also there are some of the more practical tools. There are products to help with safety too. You know the saying “I have eyes in the back of my head,” well now you really do! With the BOYO Rear View System moms can now see everything behind them using this innovative license plate camera. By just mounting the monitor next to the rear view mirror on the windshield you can safely back out of the garage, spot pets, toys or even kids behind you. I also like it because it helps people like me who find parallel parking a challenge. |
| The Auto Start product is a very small remote device that can be attached to the factory keyless entry remote for your car. I don’t know about you, but my kids love this because I can start the car before we head out to run errands to cool the car during our hot Texas summers or heat it up in the dead of winter. | ![]() |
All of these mobile gadgets would make great holiday gifts for anyone who’s on the go, and they are all still available at Hawk Electronics.
